About This Experience

4-Day Puerto Escondido Adventure Tour — Dolphins, Horses & Sierra

Puerto Escondido doesn’t reveal itself to everyone — only to those willing to go beyond the beach chair. This 4-day small group adventure is designed for travelers who want to feel the Pacific, breathe the Sierra Sur, and leave with stories worth telling.

From the moment you land at PXM airport, your local CEO (Chief Experience Officer) Antonio takes care of everything. Airport pickup, activities, meals, and memories. Your only job? Show up and be present.

Your Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival & Oaxacan Welcome Dinner

Puerto Escondido greets you properly. After your airport pickup, you’ll settle in and meet at 6:00 PM for a welcome dinner at Tlayudas China Oaxaqueña — one of the most authentic spots in town. You’ll meet Antonio and your small group over tlayudas, mezcal, and the kind of conversation that only happens when strangers realize they’re about to share something special.

Day 2 — Dolphin Safari & Sunset Horseback Riding in Puerto Escondido

6:30 AM on the open Pacific. Dolphins surface beside the boat. A sea turtle glides beneath you. On lucky days, a whale breaks the horizon. This marine safari is not a zoo — it’s the real ocean, wild and generous. Snorkel gear and fresh fruit included on board.

The afternoon is yours. Rest, explore, eat ceviche on the beach.

At 3:30 PM, the horses are ready. There is nothing quite like riding along the shoreline as the sun drops into the Pacific. It’s the kind of moment you’ll try to describe to people back home and fail — because some things only work when you’re actually there.

Day 3 — Sierra Sur Ziplines, Waterfall & Community Lunch in San Juan Lachao

Into the mountains. San Juan Lachao sits in the Sierra Sur, a world away from the coast. Ziplines cross the forest canopy. A waterfall waits at the end of a trail through ancient trees. The local community prepares a traditional Oaxacan lunch that directly supports the people who call this place home.

Back in Puerto Escondido by 2:00 PM — time for one last sunset at your own pace.

Day 4 — Farewell & Hasta Pronto

A final debrief with Antonio. Your Eco Adventures gift bag — a handmade artisan piece, not an airport souvenir — and a transfer to the airport with the particular feeling of someone who spent their time well.

⚠️ Important Before You Go

Please arrive at PXM airport — not Puerto Escondido bus station. Send your flight details at booking so Antonio can coordinate your pickup. Day 2 marine safari departs at 6:30 AM sharp — set your alarm. For the Sierra day, wear closed-toe shoes and bring a light jacket. The waterfall is cold and absolutely worth it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Your package includes a certified local CEO guide (Antonio) for all 4 days, airport transfers round-trip, the dolphin and sea turtle marine safari with snorkeling gear, sunset horseback riding on the beach, the Sierra Sur ziplines and waterfall excursion, all park and activity entrance fees, a welcome dinner on Day 1, a traditional community lunch on Day 3, water and fruit on the boat, an artisan gift bag, and traveler's insurance during all activities. The Full Experience package also includes 3 nights at Hotel Villa Sol with daily breakfasts.

Both packages include exactly the same activities, the same CEO guide Antonio, and the same itinerary. The only difference is accommodation: the Full Experience ($1,080 USD) includes 3 nights at Hotel Villa Sol with daily breakfasts and zero logistics to manage. The Essence Experience ($648 USD) covers all activities but you book your own accommodation — ideal for travelers who prefer an Airbnb or already have a hotel.

You need to fly into Puerto Escondido International Airport, code PXM. Do not book flights to Oaxaca City (OAX) — it is a 5-6 hour drive away. Once you confirm your booking, send us your flight details and Antonio will be waiting for you at PXM arrivals.

Yes. The minimum age is 12 years for all activities including the marine safari, horseback riding, and Sierra ziplines. All activities are suitable for teenagers and adults of varying fitness levels. The marine safari is calm water (no waves), horseback riding is guided at a relaxed pace, and the Sierra hike is moderate. Families are welcome and frequently join this tour.

Maximum 12 travelers per departure. This is intentional — small groups mean more personal attention from Antonio, more flexibility with timing, and a genuinely different experience from mass tourism. If you want to book for a private group of friends or family, contact us and we will arrange an exclusive departure just for you.

Dolphin sightings are consistent year-round in Puerto Escondido — we see them on the vast majority of departures. Sea turtle sightings peak between August and November. Whale sightings are seasonal, most likely December through March. We operate in the open Pacific and wildlife is wild — we never guarantee specific sightings, but our guides know exactly where to go to maximize your chances. In the rare case of no wildlife sightings, we will offer a complimentary activity.

For the marine safari: swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen, light layers for the boat (it can get breezy at 6:30 AM). For horseback riding: comfortable pants and closed-toe shoes. For the Sierra Sur day: closed-toe shoes or hiking sandals, a light jacket (the mountains are cooler than the coast), and a change of clothes for after the waterfall — it is cold and you will want to jump in. For all days: reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle.

Free cancellation up to 7 days before the tour start date for a full refund. Cancellations between 3 and 7 days before departure receive a 50% refund or a full credit toward a future date. Cancellations within 72 hours of departure are non-refundable. If we cancel due to weather or circumstances beyond our control, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no extra cost.

Puerto Escondido is one of the safest destinations in Oaxaca and is visited by thousands of international travelers every year. The town has a well-established tourism infrastructure and a welcoming local community. With Eco Adventures, you are with a certified local guide who knows the area, the people, and the culture. Absolutely. We offer private departures for groups of any size — couples, families, friend groups, corporate retreats, and bachelorette parties. A private tour means the same 4-day itinerary exclusively for your group, with dates that work for your schedule and the option to customize specific activities.
